About Sobaboro

"Soba Boro" is a confectionery characterized by its unique flavor derived from buckwheat flour. Made by kneading wheat flour, sugar, eggs, honey, and buckwheat flour into the shape of pine needles and baking them in an oven, this confectionery has an oil-free dough that results in a light and crispy texture. The fragrant aroma of buckwheat spreads in your mouth with a subtle sweetness, making it a beloved snack that you can enjoy endlessly without getting tired of it.

The history of "Soba Boro" dates back to the mid-16th century when Portuguese missionaries and traders brought "biscoito" or "bolo," a type of baked confectionery, to Japan. This marked the beginning of "Boro" in Japan. Over time, these sweets evolved to acquire unique Japanese flavors and shapes. In Kyoto, "Soba Boro," made with buckwheat flour, became a popular traditional confectionery. It is a favorite souvenir for tourists visiting Kyoto and is cherished in tea ceremonies, a practice for which Kyoto is renowned. Thus, "Soba Boro" is deeply connected to Kyoto in terms of history, culture, and climate. At Heiwa Seika, we preserve these traditional flavors while incorporating the latest equipment to ensure consistent quality.
